Tate
Reeves was elected as Mississippi’s fifty-third Treasurer on November
4, 2003 and re-elected to a second term in 2007 with the highest percentage
(61%) of any candidate running for statewide office. He is the
first Republican treasurer in the state’s history. Tate is a Rankin
County native and a graduate of Florence High School. He is an
honors graduate of Millsaps College and holds a bachelor’s degree
in economics. While at Millsaps, he played point guard for the
Millsaps Majors basketball team. Tate has continued to be an active
alumnus and remains involved with his alma mater by serving as a member
of the investment policy board for the Millsaps College General Louis
Wilson Fund and a member the Advisory Committee of the Else School of
Management.
Prior to becoming Treasurer, Tate was a
member of the Trustmark Investment Strategy Committee and served as
an Assistant Vice President for AmSouth. He
holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA). Tate is also
a member of the CFA Society of Mississippi and is a member of the CFA
Institute, an organization that leads the investment industry by setting
the highest standards of ethics and professional excellence. In 1996,
he was the recipient of the Mississippi Society of Financial Analysts
Award.
Tate is the immediate past president of
the National Association of State Treasurers. He has continued to remain very active in the
association by serving as Chairman of the Federal Legislative Committee
and as a member of the NAST executive committee. Tate also serves
as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Public Employees Retirement
System, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of College
Savings Plans of Mississippi and the Health Care Trust Fund.
Tate was recently elected by his peers to
serve as President of the Mississippi Republican Elected Officials
Assocation. In addition, Tate was recently joined by Governor(s) Bobby
Jindal of Louisiana and Matt Blunt of Missouri as one of forty two “Rising Star(s) in the Republican
Party” nationally as named by Rising Tide magazine – the
publication of the Republican National Committee.
Tate and his wife Elee Williams Reeves,
a Tylertown native, are the proud parents of their two daughters, Sarah
Tyler and Elizabeth Magee. Currently,
the Reeves family attends Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church,
where Elee and Tate served as co-chairman of the 2006 Capital Campaign. They
have been very committed to many civic and charitable organizations in
Mississippi – including the Mississippi Society of Disabilities,
UMC Children’s Cancer Clinic, Middle Mississippi Girl Scout Council,
Boys & Girls Club of Mississippi, the YMCA, the United Way, Stewpot
Ministries, the Exchange Club Parent Child Center, and the Mississippi
Symphony Orchestra.
