Jackson, Mississippi (October 24, 2007) – As tuition prices continue
to increase, a college education is becoming less affordable and accessible
for many families in the country. Today, Treasurer Tate Reeves
will help make one child’s college dream come true.
State Treasurer Tate Reeves presented Madison native Wade Sims with an
MPACT contract that is valued at approximately $5,000. In September,
Reeves teamed up with the Mississippi Braves and InTuition to give registered
Mississippians the opportunity to win the MPACT contract. Sims was the
lucky winner of the drawing held at a Mississippi Braves game.
“This is an opportunity of a lifetime for this child,” Treasurer
Tate Reeves said. “Rising tuition costs are making it harder for many
Mississippi families to send their children or grandchildren to college. I
am pleased that we had the opportunity to provide this family with a gift that
will pay huge dividends for Wade in the future.”
Treasurer Reeves oversees College Savings Mississippi, which is comprised
of two programs-Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition (MPACT) and
Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS). These
savings plans are designed to provide an affordable option for parents
or grandparents who want to prepare now for rising costs of education.
“Guaranteeing a college education is a gift that keeps on giving,
and the citizens of our state need to take advantage of plans that will
allow an affordable and accessible way to prepare for the future,” Reeves
said.
